John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
KJV
Continuing with the command of Jesus to be of good cheer this morning we find that the second time Jesus gave that command, the first having to do with sins forgiven, is when a healing takes place. (Matt 9:20-22 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: 21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. 22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.) The Bible says “Be of good comfort” and that is the same Greek word translated “Be of good cheer”. What a comfort it is to know that we can take all things to Him in prayer. I am not against doctors and medications, I see a doctor and I take medications. But they should never take the place of prayer. According to others accounts in the gospels this woman spent all she had on doctors and Jesus was her last resort. Why not make Jesus our first resort.? Read on a few verses in Mark and you find Jesus raising one from the dead and then opening the eyes of the blind. Why not make Jesus our first resort and then take comfort that we have taken it to the Lord in prayer? Jesus is still and always will be the great physician. Our affliction may remain if it is within the will of God just as Paul’s affliction remained. But even then we can give thanks because we know Jesus is in control. Be of good comfort and take your physical needs to the Lord Jesus Christ and ask for His perfect will to be done.
