Matt 6:6-8 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
KJV
A closet is at times a good place to be. This is the only time in the New Testament that the word closet is found and I find that I am commanded to enter into one. But for what purpose? Is it to hide, to feel safe, to be unnoticed? Why am I to enter into a closet? To pray. There are times when we need to get apart and alone and be with our heavenly Father in prayer. Jesus had those times. (Matt 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.) Apart and alone in prayer. How often do we get apart and alone with God in prayer? There are things we can ask for when we are alone with God that we may not ask for in prayer with others. There are things we may need to confess before God that we may not confess in prayer with others. There is a need to be apart and alone with God in prayer often. The more hectic our lives become the greater that need is. So much pressure in this world, so many demands on our time, and one of the things that may be lost is our time apart and alone with God. Don’t allow Satan and the world to rob you of this time in the closet. Don’t allow your own selfish desires to do other things to rob you of this time in the closet. Don’t miss the blessings of God because you miss time in the closet. There is a time to go into the closet and to be apart and alone. Shut the coset door behind you and spend some time with your Father in prayer.
