8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans chapter five is the “Much more” chapter of the Bible. Within this chapter the phrase much more appears five different time and each time there is a message about the salvation one can have in the Lord Jesus Christ. The first of the much mores is found in verse nine above.
(Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.) This follows the blessed truth given in verse eight that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” As many times as I read that I still cannot fully comprehend why God would love me so much, why Jesus would love me so much that He would die for me. Not only that Jesus would die but that I could be much more justified in His sight by His shed blood. To be justified before God is to be made just as if one had never sinned. Good works could not take away my sin, good intentions could not take away my sin, religion could not take away my sin. But Jesus Christ did what those things could not and now I can be, you can be, justified before God if you repent and turn to Jesus today. Not only are we much more justified but we also are much more saved from ever falling under the wrath of God. (Also in verse none.) Praise God for the first of these much mores.
