1 Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
2 Tim 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
KJV
From the above verses we find that God wants us to finish well in our walk and service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God also wants us to finish with joy. And this morning we see that there is a reward laid up in heaven for those who finish well and finish with joy. In most areas of our Christian walk there is reward. Some of those rewards come in this present life in the form of blessings. (James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.) But many of those rewards will come after we leave this world. Paul was speaking of a reward that would come after he left this world and all of its troubles and trials behind. Those eternal rewards my friend are the ones we should have set before us. Whatever we receive in this world, even in the form of blessings are temporal at best. But what we receive in heaven is eternal. What rewards are you striving for today? Some want things they can enjoy in this world and pursue them as if they are most important. Others look for rewards in heaven that will be lasting, rewards that moth or rust will not corrupt. What are you pursuing today? Let us press forward for Christ and finish well. Let us press forward with joy. Then we will find a reward that is eternal.
