Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
KJV
God not only wants us as believers in Christ to finish well as we saw yesterday, God wants us to finish with joy. There are too many things to name this morning that seemingly can squeeze the joy out of an individual. Things that are a natural result of living in this world, things that are a result of poor decisions we have made, and things that are a result of satanic attack. I know this morning some who are spending their first holiday season apart from loved ones who passed from this life and even though they are in heaven are dealing with that emptiness. I know some in nursing homes and they get very little company. I know some dealing with serious illness. I know some dealing with family problems that seem impossible to settle. I know some in hospitals. How many I could add to this list and all of us are dealing with something. Yet God wants us to finish well and finish with joy. How? Notice in our text verse that Paul would let nothing in this world move him away from his walk with Christ. That man dealt with more than most of us will and yet he would finish his course with joy. If he is not the example you want to look at consider Jesus. (Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.) Even the cross could not take away the joy of Jesus. We are able to finish well when we are walking with Jesus every step of the way. What have you allowed or who have you allowed to move you away from Jesus and a walk with Him this past year? Put it behind you and return to the one who can give you joy in every situation and circumstance of life.
