November 25th, 2022 by Pastor Solley1 Kings 18:41-46 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Today is what is called black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when the official buying season for Christmas begins and stores have what they claim to be huge sales to bring in the customers. Millions of people will be out to find those savings and because of the expected crowds this day has become known as black Friday. The only use of the word black in the Bible in a very positive sense is the account of God sending rain in response of the prayer of Elijah. The above account speaks to the power of God and the power of prayer. After three years of drought Elijah prayed for God to open the heavens and send rain to Israel. Notice the response of Elijah after he prayed in verse forty one, “There is a sound of abundance of rain.” There was no rain yet, not a cloud in the sky, but Elijah knew that God heard and would answer his prayer. All Elijah had to do was wait on the Lord. This truth is a blessing to me, that God hears and answers our prayers and all we must do is wait on the Lord. All too often we pray and because God does not act at once, not act in our time frame, we get frustrated and disappointed. Perhaps we need to learn from the prophet and simply trust and wait on the Lord. When we pray I believe we should know there is a sound of abundance of rain. Even if the rain is not yet falling, even if there is not a cloud in the sky, God has heard and will answers our prayers. I will not claim that all of our prayers will be answered in the way that we want but I will claim that as soon as we pray there can be a sound of abundance of rain within and we can know God is going to answer our prayers.
