Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
KJV
A study of the gospels will reveal many questions asked by Jesus and one of them in our verse for today. In this account ten men who were lepers cried out to Jesus for a healing. (Luke 17:12-13 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.) Jesus then gives them a command and as they obey the words of Jesus they are cleansed of that terrible disease. (Luke 17:14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.) After what Jesus did for them surely they all would give Him praise and thanks. Only one would turn and thank the Lord Jesus Christ. (Luke 17:15-16 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.) That is what brings about the question asked by Jesus “Where are the nine?” I wonder how many times that questions has been asked in heaven about me? How many times a loving and caring Savior has brought about miracles in my life and waited for me to bow before Him and give Him praise and thanks as that cleansed leper did only to see me going about my business as if nothing happened at all? Of the many things we ask of Jesus just how often do we give Him thanks? For everything we ask there should also be a word of thanksgiving. Even before a request is granted, a miracle preformed, we should take time to give thanks. That is the example of Jesus at the tomb of Lazarus thanking the Father before the miracle took place. Are you one of the nine who received so much from Jesus yet never turned to give Him thanks? Or are you that one who will bow before Him today and just glorify Him for the things He has done?
