Daily Devotions

Ps 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Many will focus on the first part of Psalm 37 as we did yesterday and what a blessing it brings to know that the Lord will give us the desires of our heart. But we must not forget the rest of this Psalm. (Ps 37:22-24 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.) Are we found daily walking with the Lord, our steps ordered by the Lord? We find our hearts more closely aligned with the heart of God when we are walking with the Lord, when we allow the Savior to order our steps. Then the desires of our heart more closely follow the desires of the heart of God. We will not be asking for things against His will or things that will lead us away from the Lord. That doesn’t mean that we cannot ask for things we want and desire for that is the biggest part of our prayer lives. But it does mean we will want and desire more and more the things that please God. So even when things may be held back for a while we still praise and thank Him for His goodness and mercy that is extended to us.
