October 17th, 2022 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 27:1-2 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

Overwhelmed this morning? The trials of this life are varied, they are not one but many and they come from many different places. There are times when even though our hearts are given to the Lord we seem to be overwhelmed. David was a man after God’s own heart yet look at his heart int his passage. David had been anointed to be the next king of Israel by Samuel who was sent to anoint David by God. God was not going to break His Word and was not going to allow Saul to kill David. Yet David was overwhelmed. What to do? Here David moves away from the only one able to deliver Him from the hand of Saul. David needed to escape but not to the land of the Philistines. Friend, the lesson is clear, when we are overwhelmed we need to move closer to the Lord and not farther away. Yet many of us seem to do just that, just what David did. David learned some valuable lessons while he was away from the Lord and one of them was to trust in the Lord especially at times the trials of life seemed to be overwhelming. (Ps 56:1-4 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. 2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.) Overwhelmed seems to be the word for today so why not go to the one who can shelter you under His wings?
