Nah 1:3 The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
KJV
How thankful we need to be for these two verses that proclaim the longsuffering nature of God. I have known and still know some very quick tempered people. They are quick to judge and quick to act and that most often gets them into trouble. Our God is not like that. Our God is slow to anger. That in no way promotes that we should push God to the limit or that God will ignore sin. Rather it shows us that God does give opportunity for man to repent. Our God is longsuffering and is not willing that any perish but that all come to Christ for forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Often we may look at the current world scenes and wonder why God does not at once judge the ungodly. That comes from within us because we are not slow to anger or longsuffering as God is. We need to remind ourselves that God was and is longsuffering toward us. We need to pray for the lost that they find salvation in Christ. We need to thank Jesus that He was slow to anger in dealing with us, giving us opportunity to be saved. I often think of verses like those above and thank Jesus for His longsuffering nature.
