Mark 4:36-41 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
KJV
Here we find the disciples in a storm, one so great they thought they would perish in the waters of the sea as their boat was about to be swamped and go down. What to do? Wake Jesus who was sleeping in the hinder part of the ship. No better person to go to in a storm, no better one to call out to, no one is able to calm a storm like Jesus can. How often storms arise in our lives, ones so great we think we will be swept away. Who to go to today? Who to wake up and tell of our need today? The very same one they awoke. Now Jesus was sleeping as we read above but was Jesus unaware of the need? I think not for Jesus knows everything all of the time. But that storm went on until they called out to Him. What beautiful words they then heard from Jesus “Peace be still”. At once there was a great calm on the sea. The storms we are in may not seem to pass as quickly as theirs did but a calm can come from our Lord at once when we simply trust and place our faith in Him. Why not call out to Jesus today to calm the storms in your life and find out as they did “What manner of man is this”.
