2 Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

What was it that made David a man after God’s heart? (Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.) The answer to that question is found in verse two above, “David inquired of the Lord”. A man after the heart of God will be a man of prayer. David moved after he prayed, not before. When David inquired of the Lord all was well in his life and when David did not inquire of the Lord trouble followed. David was not a perfect man, just a man like any of us today. But David was a man of prayer and that separates him from many of us professing Christians today. Did you begin your day by inquiring of the Lord or is that just an afterthought? Will you inquire of the Lord at every turn of this day, at every point of decision? Will you be seeking after the heart of the Lord in prayer today or do you wait until trouble arises to pray? David was praying in a time of trouble in our text this morning but if you follow the life of David in the historical books of the Old Testament as well as in the Psalms you will see that David always inquired of the Lord. How that pleased the heart of God. Is God pleased with how you inquire after Him today?
