Num 2:33 But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Levites were never numbered with the rest of the tribes of Israel. Why? The tribe of Levi was to be separated unto the Lord for service in the tabernacle and the priesthood. They were not above the other tribes because of their forefathers, not because of special abilities, not because they were the only ones who could hear from God or any of the things man might think. They were simply separated unto God by God. Today the born again believer should not be numbered among the world, he or she is to be separated unto God. They are not better than others, not wiser, not lifted up because of any reason man might think. They have been saved by the mercy and grace of God that is extended to all and have been born again by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. That makes them, makes us different and we are to come out from among them and be ye separate. (2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,) Today it seems as if the professing believer goes out of their way to be accepted by the world, to be numbered among the world. God does want is to be different, to come out and stand separate for Him. Not to be unloving, unkind, or any such thing but to be separated unto Him so that we might draw others to our savior. Never be ashamed of being different or not being numbered among the world.
