1 Peter 5:6-10 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
KJV
Be sober and vigilant the Bible tells us in verse eight. Why? Because of the lurking enemy. To be sober is to be serious and on watch. To be vigilant is to never let our guard down, to always be watchful. Satan will take every opportunity to cause us question God, to question God’s will, to questions God’s love for us. When that happens we will be less likely to take all our cares to Him in prayer, less likely to trust God. The loss of a loved one often leads one to question God. Sickness often leads one to question God. Trails of other sorts often lead ones to question God. These are questions we will never have an answer for in this world and will not matter in the world to come when we stand in the presence of the Lord. We will be better off when we learn to trust and not to question. But that is hard and that is why we are encouraged to be always on watch for the attack of the enemy. Satan is trying to get your to doubt God, don’t allow him that foothold in your life. Trust.
