Heb 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
KJV
Running a race or running in general can become very boring unless you pick your head up and keep it up looking toward a finish line, unless you look toward a goal. If one keeps their head down they see nothing except the ground. They miss the beauty that is around them if running a longer race. They may not be running is a straight line if in a sprint. Running can be very boring if you see nothing and so it is in this Christian race. What then do we look at? Look at Jesus who is standing at the finish line waiting to welcome us home. Keep your eyes on the prize. Paul was always pressing toward the prize. (Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.) When one reads of the trials the apostle endured they wonder how he could continue on in the race. He was able because he had his eyes fixed on the finish line, his eyes fixed on the prize. Don’t run your race looking only down, lift up your head and look toward the finish line, look at the one ready to welcome you home.
