Heb 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
KJV
Who are the witnesses to the race we are running as believers in Christ. Let us start at the top and work our way down. God the Father who gave us His Son that we might be saved is a witness. The Bible tells us the Father is all knowing all the time and so is a witness to all we do and say. Jesus Christ is a witness. His promise us to abide with us and to never forsake us. The Holy Spirit is a witness as He indwells us and tries to guide us. Angels in heaven as well as on this earth surround us and are a witness. Then other believers in Christ are a witness. Our families are a witness to the race we are running. Wives, sons, daughters, grandchildren all are a witness to the race we are running for the Lord. No Christian is a man or woman unto themselves, all are seen by someone and make an impression on the witnesses observing them. But what type of witness? Am I an encouragement to others in the race? An encouragement to those who have been running for a long time, to those who have just entered, to those who are thinking of giving up? What do those witnesses see when they see me? The apostle Paul had the Divine stamp of approval on the race he ran. (2 Tim 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.) What will be stamped on the race we are running?
