2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Who are the witnesses and who and what are they watching? A witness is one who sees or hears something and can testify to the truth of the matter. We see in Heb 12:1 that there is a great cloud of witnesses. But what and who are they watching? They are watching runners in a race. (Heb 12:1) This is no ordinary race, it is an important race, it is the race that is the Christian life. This race is also seen in 1 Cor 9. (1 Cor 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.) Now I find that there are witnesses watching and ready to testify as to how I run this race I am in. Some keys now as to how to finish this race well over the next few days. First, we must realize we are in a race and there is a finish line ahead. No reason for me to be concerned about a witness if I am not in the race. But when one receives Jesus Christ as his or her personal savior they are entered into the race and they are expected to finish well. The Christian life is not one in which we should just drift along, but one in which we should strive to please our savior. Years ago I was a runner and entered some races and the goal was always to finish strong, finish well. Why? Because many would gather at the finish line and witness the outcome. Even if I didn’t win the race I wanted to be seen as one who finished strong, finished well. Christian you are in a race? How are you doing as you approach the finish line?
