Luke 10:38-42 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
KJV
Mary had a determination to stay with “That good part”. (Verse 42) To remain at the feet of Jesus, to listen and learn. (Verse 39) Martha began there because the Bible tells us that Mary also sat at the feet of Jesus. Martha began there but allowed certain things to move her away, she became cumbered about serving. What do we allow to move us away from the feet of Jesus today? Sickness, work problems, family troubles, financial worries? All those and many more things can move us away from the feet of Jesus so we like Mary need to determine to stay by His side, to sit at His feet. With Jesus is the place we will find that good part. We must be ever so careful not to be cumbered with the things of this world. One can rightly say that Martha was concerned with serving and that a good thing. But even good things can at times move one away from where they need to be. Let us stay with that good part.
