2 Tim 1:15-18 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
KJV
Paul in this passage brings out the names of three friends of his, at least three he thought were his friends. As it turns out only one was a real blessing to the apostle, Onesiphorus. Why was this man a blessing and the others were not? Obviously the others turned away from Paul but it was
Onesiphorus who tried to be a blessing, tried to refresh Paul. According to verse 18 he did many things that were a blessing to Paul. We often seek a blessing but how often do we seek to be a blessing to others? I would say this man Onesiphorus found blessings in being a blessing because Paul prayed the hand of the Lord be upon him and grant him mercy. Could it be that when we set out to be a blessing that blessings will find us? Why not instead of looking for every little fault in others seek to be a blessing and help to them? Could that in turn cause others to pray for us and the blessings of God begin to flow as we never or seldom ever experienced them before?
