Ps 119:49-50 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.
50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
KJV
What is the benefit of reading the Bible, of memorizing Scripture? We find the answer to that question above. It is not wrong to bring up what God has said in prayer and in time of affliction as we see the Psalmist do above. However we must remember when we do that we are not reminding God, we are reminding ourselves. God doesn’t need to be reminded because God does not forget His promises or His Word. We need to be reminded of the promises of God when affliction arises in our lives. Promises like Jer 33:3 (Jer 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.) Promises like Proverbs 35-6 (Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.) Promises like Psalm 37:4 (Ps 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.) God knows and remembers but we need to be reminded. How can I be reminded of what I have never read? How can I remember what I have not rehearsed many times over? It is never wrong to bring up Scripture in prayer but we need keep in mind it is for our benefit and we need to be found daily in the pages of His Word.
