Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

Here we find Jesus getting apart and alone with the Father in prayer. (Verse 36) Public prayer is good, prayer gatherings are good, prayer partners are good and we will see Jesus in the following verses ask for help from His inner circle of disciples in prayer. But we need times when we can get apart and alone with the Father in prayer. Times when all others are shut our if you would and we can be alone with our heavenly Father in prayer. Here Jesus is in the quiet and darkness of the garden at night alone with the Father. A time when He can pour out His heart to the Father, a time when He can express His greatest needs and His greatest fear. Here is a oneness found with the Father, a closeness that can only be found in prayer. Here strength will be found, not in numbers, but in prayer. Here comfort will be found, here encouragement will be found, here direction will be found, here the will of the Father will be clearly seen. When we lack the things just named it can often be linked to a lack of time apart and alone with the Father. Begin to take some time each day when you put the smart phone in a different room, when the TV and PC are turned off, and you can just sit quietly alone with the Father. Go away yonder with the Father each day and see if you begin to find what Jesus found in prayer. Where did Jesus get the strength to endure this last and greatest trial of His earthly life? From being apart and alone with the Father and not just here in the garden. Many are the times recorded in the gospel accounts when Jesus was apart and alone with the Father in prayer.
