March 21st, 2022 by Pastor SolleyMatt 26:30-36 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

Jesus is about to face the greatest trial of His life on this earth. Remember what has taken place over just a few days. The triumphal entry into Jerusalem as we call it and remember as Palm Sunday. The cleansing of the temple, the teaching of the parables, the last Passover and what we call the last supper and the institution of the Lord’s Table. Now they leave the upper room and go to the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus is about to be betrayed with a kiss, arrested, forsaken by all, unjustly accused in a mock trial, turned over to Rome and crucified. This is why Jesus came into this world. (John 12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.) It also represents His greatest trial in this world. What would Jesus do in this hour of need? We know He could have called twelve legions of angels to His aid, could have spoken just a word and destroyed this world He created. What would Jesus do? Jesus went to prayer. (Verse 36) Why is it that prayer is often the last thing we do when we are in need when it was the first thing that Jesus did? Why do we choose to complain, or to worry, or to seek the aid of others first? Why is it that prayer is often the last thing we do when we are in need when it was the first thing that Jesus did? I want to look over the next few days at Jesus in prayer at that hour. There are several things in this prayer that if we put into practice in our lives can carry us through many dark trials just as Jesus was carried all the way to the cross and then His resurrection from the grave by prayer. For today let us consider just how much we are given to prayer and how much more we could be.
