1 Cor 10:12-14 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
KJV
Our way of escape from the snares of the devil, from the temptations and trials of life is found in a person. In God, in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here we find this statement, “God is faithful”. Is He? Have you found God to be faithful in your life, in your hour of temptation? We know that to be true only as we turn to Christ first and always when the storms of life arise and also when the seas of life are calm. In order to turn to Christ first and always though in need to flee from something and that is given in verse fourteen, “Flee from idolatry.” Praise the Lord there are no idols in America and no idols in our lives. But are there? An idol is anyone or anything that moves one away from Christ. With that said there are many idols that need to be removed from our lives, from my life, if I am going to consistently find my way of escape. Family can become an idol, a job can become an idol, sports can become an idol, social media and the smart phone can become an idol. Anything or anyone that moves us away from Christ becomes an idol in our lives. For many reading this the fist thing they look at in the morning, the last thing they look at before they fall asleep is the smart phone. For many reading this they will look at face book more times today and be concerned with what is said there than the Bible. Many would rather offend Jesus by missing church than offend a family member by missing some time at a gathering. I for one have never bowed before an idol of gold or silver. But how many times have I bowed to other types of idols and allowed them to move me in little steps or huge strides away from Jesus? No wonder it is so hard to find our way of escape at times. More tomorrow on our way of escape.
