Ps 91:1-3 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
KJV
This time the attack from Satan takes the form of a noisome pestilence. The word noisome refers to something known, something seen, a calamity. The word pestilence refers to a plague. This is not like the snare that is a trap set and unseen until we step in it and it begins to tighten. This is an open attack that at times seems to rush upon the child of God. As this Psalm was written Israel had many enemies that would mass in number and attack in an attempt to overrun Israel. Satan will use that same tactic today seeming to rush upon the child of God with one problem after another. A pestilence can overtake and overcome. This Hebrew word is translated murrain in Ex 9:3when the flocks and herds of the Egyptians were overcome by a plague. At that same time the flocks and herds of Israel were protected by God. Expect the attacks of Satan to come in waves at times that may seem likely to overcome us. But at those times we have a God who can and will deliver us just as He can do from the snare set for us. There is an old saying from my youth that says troubles always come in threes. Looking back I cans ee many times that was true, one thing after another. At those times I can remember being discouraged and worn down, overrun. But then we need to remember that our God will deliver us no matter how great or fierce the attack of the enemy. Troubles may seem to come in threes but we still have God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit that will delivers us.
