Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Today there are many things that can cause one to be afraid. Be it the real and present dangers of a society not held accountable for crime or the false fears held up by those who operate under the cover of darkness, there are many things that can cause one to be afraid. Yet we find in this Psalm a promise of victory over all of our enemies, real or imagined. It was fear of a real enemy that caused Hezekiah to fear and God sent an angel and the angel smote 185,000 of the enemy in one night. It was an imagined fear that made Esther hesitate before going to see the king and the Lord put a soft heart within that king. Be the enemy real or one imagined God has promised us the victory if we only trust Him. Why not then make the Lord our refuge and habitation? In times of sorrow and heartbreak, in times of illness and pain, in times when we seem to be surround we must not leave our secret place. At those times more than any other we need draw near unto the Lord, we need to abide in our secret place. As we look through spiritual eyes we will be able to see the reward of the wicked and it will not be a good reward. Take heart dear saint of God for even when we seem to be under siege we are one the winning side.
