Ps 116 I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.
Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
I said in my haste, All men are liars.
What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people,
In the courts of the Lord’s house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord.

This is one of my favorite Psalms and I hope to walk through it this week. What to do in a time of loss, where to turn when the sorrows of death surround us, when that pain of separation gets hold of us? All will experience this and the longer one lives the more times they will find themselves dealing with such loss. Many turn to family and friends as their support system and that is good. Some turn to philosophy to try and answer questions but they find no real answers. Some try and lesson the pain with alcohol or drugs and that is just a temporary solution. Where can we find help? The only place we can find help is the only place we can find eternal life, in the Lord Jesus Christ. Notice the psalmist loves the Lord because he hears his voice and supplications. (Verse 1) The only one who can grant us eternal life is the only one who can lessons the greatest pain we have in this earthly life and we need to cry out to Him. As the psalmist prays he is reminded of just how gracious and merciful the Lord is. (Verse 5) As I was praying in the night and early morning hours I could think of the grace of God that offers salvation in Christ and the fact that our loved one was born again and saved by the blood of Christ. I could and can thank God for His abundant mercy extended to all through Jesus Christ. I could and can thank the Lord for a soul delivered from this world and welcomed into heaven. I could and can thank the Lord for a comfort that comes only from knowing Him. I can thank the Lord for one to turn to in a time of loss.
