December 15th, 2021 by Pastor SolleyJer 33:1-3 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Another gift so often neglected is the gift of prayer. The believer in Christ is told that we can come boldly to the throne of grace, that we can find mercy and help in our time of need. (Heb 4:16) In our verses this morning the prophet is being encouraged to come to the Lord in prayer. In context Jeremiah was shut up in prison and prayer was the only way he was going to be delivered. God did answer that prayer and Jeremiah was let out of that prison cell. Other times would come when Jeremiah needed help and that help was always found in the Lord by prayer. So it can be with us today and with that being true I wonder why it is so easy to neglect prayer in our lives today? We can see the same answers to prayer that Jeremiah saw in his life if we only pray, spend time in prayer, appear often before the throne of grace. Yet count the moments you will spend in prayer today. Most of us would be ashamed to have it known how little time we spend in prayer. In just the past few weeks I have witnessed the power of God in prayer. Not so much for myself but for others as prayers are lifted up on their behalf. Shouldn’t that then be an encouragement to spend more and more time in prayer? What will you do with the time you could be spending in prayer today? Will you use this precious gift, or will you neglect it?
