Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
KJV
If we as believers have been not been given a spirit of fear and bondage, then why is it so difficult to live apart from those things day by day? Because of the enemy we face. Notice what the Bible tells us later this same passage. (Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?) These verses, which are so familiar begin with the word “Who” not the word what. That suggests in our English language an individual, a person and not a thing. While the translators of the Bible from Greek to English were not inspired as those who received the Word of God from the Holy Spirit I do believe they were led of the Holy Spirit as they made the translation. Why the word who? Because we face an enemy who wants to place within us that spirit of fear and bondage, we face an enemy that wants to rob us of peace and joy, we face an enemy that wants to keep us from trusting in and resting in the Lord Jesus Christ. Every battle we fight is a spiritual one. Satan will use fear, will use physical illness, will use financial struggles, will use corrupt governments, will use all that he can to attack the believer in Christ. But we have through Jesus Christ an relationship with God the Father that can lift us above those things. We are not exempt from the attacks of the enemy but we can have victory over them through Christ. Don’t allow Satan to replace your peace and rest in the Lord with fear and bondage.
