Rom 8:14-16 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
KJV
The reason we are not given the spirit of fear, the reason we do not have to live in the bondage of fear as we looked at yesterday in our devotion, is the close relationship we can have with God the Father through Jesus Christ. Those who are born again are born into the family of God, become a child of God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. The closer then we draw to the Father the more that fear, the bondage of fear no matter the cause, is taken away. But now we have our part, we must draw near to the Father. How? The first step is to spend time with our heavenly Father. Time in prayer, time in His Word, time in meditating upon His Word, meditating upon Him. I look back at my relationship with my earthly father as an illustration of drawing close to my heavenly Father. When I was that little boy I loved spending time with dad, doing things with dad, going places with dad. I couldn’t wait for dad to get home so I could spend time with him. As I grew into a teenager those times were not so special to me. Dad never moved, never changed, but I did not walk as close to him as before so the relationship was not as close. There were times I did not want to see dad. Then as we both grew older I began once more to cherish times with my dad. Times hunting, going places, just doing things with dad, that relationship getting stronger. The last ten years of his life my dad and in were very close, especially the last few years. I hardly ever missed a day that I did not at least talk to dad and saw him many times a week. Funny thing, dad never moved, dad never changed, but our relationship grew deeper because I chose to spend the time. Same thing with our heavenly Father, that relationship grows deeper when I choose to spend the time and I find no reason to fear, not when I am close to my heavenly Father.
