Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Another Psalm where the name of the Lord is to be praised. As we saw yesterday it is not because all was well in David’s life that he praised the Lord, it was often in distress that David praised the Lord. David knew that the Lord was always good and always good to him. Even in this Psalm we find David in trouble from the world and the enemies of God. (Ps 118:10-13 All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them. They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the Lord helped me.) It was in times like these that David learned that the Lord is good, always good. David could look back and praise the Lord for His goodness when the flock he was guarding was attacked by a lion and a bear. David could look back and praise the Lord for His goodness when he was the one to step out and face the giant. David could look back and thank the Lord for His goodness when falsely accused and attacked by King Saul. David knew his God was always only good. Can you stop and give thanks to the Lord today? Even perhaps in distress and discouragement because of the world and current circumstances of life. Can you stop and give thanks to the Lord? One way to be able to do that is to look back and remember just how good God has been to you.
