October 18th, 2021 by Pastor SolleyPs 40:1-5 I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
4 Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Many of the Psalms the Holy Spirit used David to write are very sad. Sad because of the circumstances of David’s life. David was a man after God’s own heart but also a man after our own experiences. Life is often sad, filled with trials, illnesses, problems and worries. As one reads the book of Psalms he finds many sad Psalms. But in those Psalms we find David continually praising and thanking the Lord. In Psalm forty we find David in a horrible pit. What was the cause? It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that David was still found praising and thanking the Lord, David was trusting in the Lord, David was even singing a new song. Was that because David was lifted out of that pit or did God lift David up and out because of David’s trust and praise for his God? I believe the latter to be true. When we seem to be in that horrible pit we need to remember how good God has been to us, how good God is to us, and praise His name. “Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works”. Those should be my words today and not just the words of David. My God is always and only good and He needs be praised.
