1 Sam 27:1 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
KJV
Even those who are closest to the Lord can be overcome by despair from time to time. David by the testimony of Scripture was a man after God’s own heart. David was a man who would step out for the Lord when all around him would not. David was a man who had that faith rewarded on the battlefield. And David was a man who believed he would perish at the hand of Saul. There are times when even those closest to the Lord can be overcome by despair. What to do at those times? Not what David did as he went into the land of the Philistines. Our help never will be found in the world. We need to draw ever closer to the Lord especially as we are about to be overcome by the circumstances of life. It is so easy today to think that the Lord has turned all control of this world over to Satan, to believe that there is no hope, no solution to what we see taking place around us. News reports today of a mother being arrested for refusing to leave her daughter’s side in a hospital as she recovers from surgery. Lies coming from our leaders that they cannot explain. Crime rates climbing at an alarming rate. Where can we run to? Not to the world as David in a moment of weakness did, we need to run to the Lord. Remember today and always that God is still on the throne.
