1 Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The word resist is found ten times in the Bible and it is interesting to this preacher that the first and last times concern Satan. Zech 3:1 gives us a picture of the ongoing spiritual battle of Satan opposing the children of God, resisting them with all of his power and every resource available to him. 1 Pet 5:8 is a vivid reminder that we are in this spiritual battle and the enemy continues to pursue and attack the child of God today. 1 Pet 1:9 then gives us our defense against the enemy, resist Satan. But we do not have to resist Satan alone, we can resist him in our faith, resist him in the Lord knowing that “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Consider what was given in the verse following the first use of the word resist in the Bible. (Zech 3:2 And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?) We must resist or fall to the enemy but we do not have to resist on our own. Bring the Lord into the fight and depend upon Him, allow the Lord to strengthen you and defeat the enemy. No one can deny that Satanic opposition is on the rise today and that the enemy continues to use every resource available to him. But this also remains true today. 1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Let this be our battle cry in resistance.
