September 23rd, 2021 by Pastor SolleyPs 77:1-11 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.
Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?
Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

Yesterday we spoke of a new song, a song of praise to be offered up to the Lord. In our reading this morning we see the psalmist offering up a song in his infirmity. Here we find one overwhelmed by troubles and sorrow, one who could not sleep because of the trial he was in, one so troubled that he could not speak even in prayer. But as one reads the remaining verses in this Psalm they find that it is still a Psalm of praise and worship that is offered up to God. It is a new song of rejoicing. Why? Because he stopped to remember the wonders of God, the wonders of old, how God had blessed him in the past and was still a God of goodness and blessings. Whatever the troubles and trials of this life, and there are many of them today, they do not change the nature or the goodness of God, they do not take away what God has done for us in the past, is doing for us now, and will continue to do for us tomorrow. No, we have not been cast off. (Verse 7) No, God has not forgotten us or forgotten to be gracious. (Verse 8) Don’t allow Satan to use the trials and troubles of this life to move you away from God or cause you to forget the goodness of God. Our God is still good and we can sing a new song of praise today.
