Jer 33:1-3 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
KJV
Jeremiah 33:3 is a favorite verse of many people and one that holds a great promise for every born again child of God. What a great and wonderful promise that our God will hear when we call upon Him and will answer our prayers, often beyond what we ever ask or think. Least one thinks it is just an Old Testament promise we find the same in the New Testament. (Eph 3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,) But consider the context of Jeremiah 33. The prophet had been shut up in a prison. Jeremiah was going through a difficult trial and his only offense was that he proclaimed the Word of the Lord. We often wonder why God allows the trials and troubles of this world to touch us, why God doesn’t shield us from all harm and danger. But that is not the way that the Lord or this world works. We, even though we know Christ as our savior, must live in this world. We still have an enemy that wants to destroy us in any way that he can. We will go through troubles and trials while in this world and Jeremiah was in the middle of one. But that is when we need draw nearer and nearer our dear Lord and as we do we know that we can call upon Him, that He does hear, and that He will never leave or forsake us. What a wonder promise is made in Jeremiah 33:3 and it only becomes more precious as we stand in the trials of life.
