And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church ; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Many people today are trying to do away with the church and if not that they try and diminish the importance of the church. So let me ask then why the church? Why do we need the church today, is the church still important today? The church may not be fashionable but we do need it and it is still of upmost importance to God. Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church. If Satan would deem the church so important that he would throw all his power against it then it is important in doing the work of God. Jesus said it was His church and that makes it important. Jesus said He would build it and that makes it important. But notice again that phrase, “I will build my church”. It implies a work in progress. I contend that Jesus continues to build His church until He raptures it out of this world. The church is important today. It is still God’s, still being built by Jesus, still under attack, and still standing.
