John 5:5-9 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
KJV
Reading this entire account one finds that this man who was healed knew very little about Jesus, in fact he didn’t even know who Jesus was. (John 5:13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.) But as he obeyed Jesus he was made whole and did take up his bed and walk. What a lessons for us today who do know Jesus and claim to know Jesus as our personal savior. Why not just listen to Jesus? Why not just obey? This man couldn’t walk, he probably had tried thousands and thousands of time over those thirty eight years to walk and could not. He did not have the strength to stand let alone take up his bedding and carry it away. This man most likely had given up on walking many years before. But when Jesus said to rise up he did, when Jesus said take up his bed he did. He obeyed Jesus and was made whole. We are not told the name of this man, he was just a certain man, but he gives a great lessons in obedience to the Lord. Why not just listen to Jesus? When we do we may find ourselves lifted up above the many trials and troubles of life, we will find ourselves made whole.
