KJV
How many times in your life have you been told to do something because it is good for you? Many of those times you may have wondered why the thing you were told to do was good for you I am sure. Why was eating all your vegetables so good for you? Why was going to bed so early so good for you? Those things and others you may have wondered about when you were child. As one grows older more things are added that were good for us. Above is a statement that is good for all. “It is good for me to draw near to God”. That statement from the psalmist rings true for all, it is good for us to draw near to God. But why? First, God has absolute authority over all. One day all of us will stand before our creator and give answer for our lives before Him in judgment. It would be good to get close and have a relationship with God before that day comes. Second, God has power to forgive us of our sins through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh. Jesus died on the cross for all so all could be saved. Not all will be saved of course but all have the opportunity to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and have their sins forgiven by His shed blood. Third, God knows all about us and every problem and trial that we will ever face in this world and is able to help in our time of need. Why go through this life alone, why not draw near to the one who can help us? Fourth, God is preparing a home in heaven for all who repent and come to Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin. We will live eternally with God in heaven if we are saved, why not start living with and for Him now? Stop and think today and you will come up with many more reasons it is good to draw near to God.
