Num 2:1-4 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
2 Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father’s house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch.
3 And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah.
4 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.
KJV
Numbers chapter two gives the order in which the people of Israel camped around the tabernacle, each tribe by its own standard or flag that gave notice to all where they were. If you read the chapter you find the tabernacle was in the middle surrounded and protected on each side. Notice also the word armies that occurs throughout the chapter. They were to protect and defend the tabernacle, the standard for all of the tribes. It holds a lesson for us today. Are we willing to protect and defend our standard? What is our standard? The Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel message, these all are a part of what makes up the standard for the true Christian and we have witnessed an ongoing attack against our standard. The rise and popularity of the false Bibles versions. (Our King James Bible is not a version, it is the Word of God!) The adoption of the world’s music into the church. (There is no such thing as Christian Rock music.) The watering down of the gospel message to the point many believe that all will go to heaven and there is no need to repent and be born again. (Repentance is still a part of salvation.) We have witnessed this, but are we willing to stand up and defend our standard? Sadly most are not today. We have something worth protecting, worth defending, worth fighting for today. Israel knew that the tabernacle was to be protected and defended and in those years in the wilderness they were willing to do just that. Are you today? And we have much more to protect and defend than they did.
