Ruth 1:11-16 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.
14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

We continue to look at mothers this morning. Like Hannah yesterday Ruth was not yet a mother at this point but in her we see one who is committed to the Lord. (Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:) There is no reason for Ruth to go with Naomi, to leave her home and family, to leave the only life she had ever known, other than a commitment to the Lord. Naomi had released her along with her other daughter in-law from any obligation they might have had and was heading home alone. What reason did Ruth give for going with her? Not a love for Naomi, although she most surely did love her. Not an obligation to take care of her, although that might have been there. It was a commitment to the Lord God. Ruth had a relationship with Jehovah God and was committed to serving the Lord, to walking with the Lord. Do you or did you have a praying mom as Hannah was? Then thank the Lord for that. Do you have or did you have a mother committed to the Lord as Ruth was? Then that and praise the Lord for that. I can say both things about my mother as well as the mother to my children and I do thank and praise the Lord for both. Young ladies and mothers here is an example to follow.
