Matt 26:38-39 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
KJV
Here we find Jesus exceeding sorrowful, even to the point of death. Of all the things Jesus could have done to change those circumstances He chose to pray. Jesus chose to do the one thing we all can do in times of deepest sorrow, pain, and despair, Jesus prayed. Notice first the submission of the Son of God to the Father. Jesus fell on His face. Was it because of the burden Jesus carried, was it because of the cross He was about to face, was it because of the denial that was coming from those so very close to Him? All of those things were real of course but they were not the reason. Jesus bowed in submission and worship to the Father. What is there that should move us away from such submission and worship today? The sorrows of life are many, the trials of life can be harsh, but what should move us away from submission and worship of our God? As we bow before Him we acknowledge Him as the Lord of our life, as we worship Him we acknowledge His goodness and His greatness. Our God is good, always good. Our God does all things well all the time. Our God knows ever tear that we shed, every fear that we have. Before we allow the circumstances of life to turn us away from or God we need bow before Him, worship Him. We will find this is a vital step in finding strength and help in our time of need just as Jesus did.
