15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
KJV
It seems to me that there are a great many Christians living in fear today. Fear of the future, fear of the virus, fear of what government may do in this changing world, fear of so many things. This fear has caused many to shrink and disappear so they no longer are being led of the Spirit of God but are controlled by their fears. I don’t want to sound above that because many times I am gripped by fear as well. But then I find that I have not been given a spirit of fear, that I am not to be bound by fear, that I am to be led of the Holy Spirit of God. And where is that Spirit going to lead me if I am given to Him? To a deep relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, to a close walk with Him, to a place where fear no longer has a hold upon me. I believe that is what the Bible is saying here in Romans eight. When fear grips you there is one thing to do to escape that fear. Draw closer to God, draw closer to Christ. (James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.)
