Job 16:1-2 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
KJV
I have read the book of Job many times. I have looked at Job broken by heartache and needing help. I have listened as his friends came and while I am sure they meant well, gave Job no comfort at all. I have listened as Job answered them and pointed to his life as having no blot that would justify such sadness. What we don’t see in the first part of this book, in Job’s friends or even in Job is a time of just waiting on the Lord. A time of just bowing before the Lord and waiting in silence for God to comfort, for God to strengthen, for the grace and mercy of God to flow over Job. There are times when we need to just sit silent before God, to bow before God and to wait for God to comfort, strengthen and sustain us. I take much from Job’s friends when I go to comfort one in time of loss and sorrow in that we don’t need to say much, we just need to be there and pray. I take much from Job as well in that we don’t need to justify ourselves or even to try and figure things out, we just need to sit silent before God.
