Matt 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
KJV
Above are the first and last uses of the phrase “Heavenly Father” in the Bible. This little devotional makes little sense if you did not have a good earthly father as I did. But if you had a good father, a Godly father you can take much from the times we see our heavenly Father in the Bible. Even the two verses above speak a great deal to me. I think of the many times I disappointed my earthly father, the many times I disobeyed him while growing up, of the difficult teen years when I always knew more than he did. I think back of the many times he had to discipline me and then how many times he forgave me and we put things behind us. How thankful I am today that even as I have been corrected and disciplines by my heavenly Father He always forgives and restores. I think also of the many good gifts I received from my earthly father. But not of the things the world values, not of money or land or homes, but of the truly good gifts I received. Gifts of being taught to be honest, hard working, caring and looking to the needs of others. I am thankful for the earthly father I had but even more thankful for the heavenly Father I now have and for every precious gift that comes down from above.
