Luke 2:1-6 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
KJV
Apologies for no devotions the past two days as we were able to spend a little time with our daughter, her husband and our grandchildren.
Joseph and Mary were about to complete a long journey as recorded in Luke chapter two. But it was not a journey from Galilee to Bethlehem alone. It was a journey begun in Gen 3:15 with the first promise of a deliverer, the first promise of a savior. It was a journey with many pitfalls along the way as Satan tried over and over again to end that journey early. But here they were, chosen of God to be the ones used to bring the Messiah into the world. They in obedience to the command of God and following the decree of government were making their way to Bethlehem. How difficult was their part of the journey we do not know, we can only imagine, but they did their part as now the days were about to be accomplished. We need to thank our heavenly Father today for the journey about to be completed and for recording it for us. Think about that journey today and their part in it. Tomorrow we will see their part completed.
