Daily Devotions

Phil 4:12-13 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
KJV
How few people in this life know how to abound. Most know how to be abased but few know how to abound. The number of professional athletes who are bankrupt shortly after they are done playing is alarming. They made millions of dollars in a short period of time and in almost just as short a period of time they are broke. Why? They don’t know how to abound. I want to apply that now to the Christian. We know how to be abased, but do we know how to abound? Israel certainly didn’t. After they were in the Promised Land they quickly forgot God. They didn’t know how to abound. Solomon certainly didn’t. After God gave him wisdom and wealth he let others turn his heart away from the Lord. But Paul tells us he knew how to abound. Do You? When things are going well in our lives, when there seems to be no problems, is that when you begin to let spiritual things go? Does your prayer life become shallow, does you Bible reading stop, is church attendance set aside? Many people never know how to abound and then wonder why there seems to be so many trials in their lives.
