Gen 28:15-17 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
KJV
Why is the house of God important, why is the church so important, so vital to the life of a Christian? There are several lessons we can draw from the experience of Jacob recorded in Genesis 28 that point to the importance of the church in our lives today. Just from the above verses we see that the house of God is where we can awake to God. Jacob awoke from sleep. The house of God is where we can hear from God. God spoke to Jacob. The house of God is where we learn of and can claim the promises of God. God promised to fulfill His Word to Jacob. The house of God is where we learn to reverence and respect God. Jacob feared God. The house of God is where we get a glimpse of heaven. Jacob saw heaven’s gate. There are many things we gain when we go to the house of God. I pray you will be found in a good Bible believing, Bible preaching church this coming Lord’s day.
