16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
It is amazing to hear people talk about how much they love the Lord. Some people say that and then wear it like some badge of honor. But notice something about our love for Jesus. It is but a reflection of His love for us. (Verse 19) The only reason any man loves Jesus is because Jesus first loved and loves us. It is no great thing that we love Him. Don’t get me wrong, we are to love Him. Love Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We ought to love Him. But that love is simply a reflection of His love for us. Just like the moon would not shine apart from the sun, we would not love, cannot not love apart from Jesus. The next time you think of telling someone how much you love Jesus stop and thank Him for loving you first.
