December 10th, 2019 by Pastor Solley1 Thess 4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
KJV
These words take on special meaning for me once again this week as we have lost an old time member of our church and myself another uncle. I do praise the Lord for salvation in Jesus Christ and for the testimony of my uncle as he knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior. But what of others who die and we do not know if they ever trusted Christ, what of others who die who in their life denied and rejected Jesus Christ? Not everyone who dies is better off, not everyone goes to a better place, many have hell and not heaven as their place in eternity. I conducted many funerals over the past year, as a long time pastor in the same area I do get called for funerals and in many of them I have no idea if that individual was saved or not. I often read the above verses at the grave side but I must tell the people only if that one was saved will they arise and meet the Lord in the air. I do thank the Lord for the certainty of salvation. Are you born again, are you saved today? Only then do theses verse bring comfort.
