14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
KJV
An earnest is a guarantee. I signed one many years ago, a guarantee that I would pay back the money I borrowed for my house. That earnest ended a few years ago when we paid off our mortgage, that guarantee ended and I send the bank no more money for that loan. It is always a good thing when we pay off our debts. However there is on debt that will never be paid off, our debt to the Lord Jesus Christ, because the earnest never ends. Even in eternity we are His having been bought by His blood. I owed a debt I could not pay, He paid a debt He did not own. What a wonderful thing to know that we are eternally His because He signed the earnest and will never let us go.
